What am I doing?
I am exploring the world of beverages to learn more about them. From beers, wine, spirits, and liqueurs to coffee, tea, and others. This will be like my “Pokemon” game and I “gotta to catch ’em all”.
I will also share my experience in the hospitality industry (formal and informal) to help you be better as a bartender, restaurant manager or simply a party host.
Why am I doing this?
I love eating and drinking and I am fascinated by how different a beverage can be (say coffee) when grown in a certain place or roasted a certain way or event brewed by this or that method. I want to taste it all, good and bad, just to see what its like. Writing about it is the best way I know to assimilate that knowledge, and blogging will push me to keep researching in order to meet the deadline and demand.
Where am I doing it from?
I live in Ontario, Canada and this is relevant because of the local the legislation. The Liquor Control Board of Ontario (or LCBO) detains the monopoly on selling alcohol which has its advantages and limitations. I’ll go on about it in a different post.
Who am I?
My name is Mauricio Guimaraes. I was born and raised in Brazil and moved to Canada in 2013. My entire life I have loved food and drinks and have searched for new experiences, tried weird things and studied them.
I have also worked in the industry for most of my professional career. I’ve partnered with, sold to, served at, and managed restaurants. I’ve promoted and organized both social and corporate events. Last (and probably least) I am a sommelier and consultant (with a diploma and everything), and I just can’t get enough of exploring the subject.
